Anna Blaszczyk, age 98, formerly of Jersey City, passed into eternal rest on May 4,2024. Born in Zwyzen, Poland, on October 30, 1925, she was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Dominik; her beloved son, Edward; her parents, Jozef and Anastazja (Nester) Kociubinski; her two brothers, Piotr and Andrzej; and her cousin, Anna (Rudak) Matyjasik, and her husband, Henry, in Canada. Anna is survived by her loving son, Joseph with wife Mary Ann (Skros); her loving and adored grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew and Alexandra; and her family in Canada, Marion Zurowski, as well as extended family in Poland.
Anna left Poland as a teenager and went to Germany to work as a farmhand during World War II. This is where she met her future husband, Dominik, when both went to see a British plane that had been shot down not far from where they both worked. They married and immigrated to the United States in the late 1940s. They settled in Jersey City and raised their family. Anna worked for M&M Luggage Company in Jersey City as an inspector before deciding to become a stay-at-home mother.
Anna was an active parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua RC Church in Jersey City for many years. She was also a member of St. Anthony’s Seniors of Jersey City, the Rosary Society and a member of Liga Morska of Jersey City. Anna also enjoyed going to Atlantic City. Visitation will be held at Michalski Funeral Home on Monday, May 13th from 3 to 7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Church on Tuesday, May 14th at 11 am. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
