Donato Reyes Aponte, 87, a long-time resident of Jersey City, died on April 6, 2022, at his home. He was born February 17, 1935, in Pedro Avila, Cayey, Puerto Rico. The son of Marcelo Reyes Martinez and Maria Emilia Aponte Alvarado of Orocovis, Puerto Rico. In addition to his parents, his siblings preceded him in death; Teclo, Andres, Margarita, Ramona, Santos, and Modesto. He is survived by three siblings: Lino, Jesus, and Carmen Alvarado. He leaves behind Milagros, Ricardo, Wigberto, Mary, and Orlando, from his first marriage to Maria Reyes, Marisol Fairclough (Dale) second marriage to Rosa Morales. Donato is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Luisa Hidalgo, and their children Jose (Linda), Maria (Ricky), and Iris (Christian). He was a loving stepfather to Hector and Carmelo. In addition, he leaves behind the following grandchildren, Rick Jason, Joshua, Michael, Anthony, Julie, Raymond, Lennox Donato, Kristina, Isabel, Christian, Gilberto, Kayla, Christopher, Joel, Jaydee, and his great grand-daughter Layla. He leaves behind many families and friends who loved him dearly. Donato retired from Harbor Plastics, where he held a position as a supervisor for over 30 years. In addition, he was a parish member of St. Boniface and St. Mary’s Church, where he volunteered at the food bank. He enjoyed boxing, bowling, baseball, casinos and was a diehard Met’s fan. He would show up at any event where there were family, friends, and ice cream. His family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday, April 12, from 4-8 PM at the Michalski Funeral Home, and a mass on Wednesday, April 13 at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church in downtown Jersey City. His remains will be laid to rest at the Clover Leaf Park Cemetery in Woodbridge, NJ.
