Hanxiang Liu 刘汉湘

1936 – 2026

Hanxiang Liu 刘汉湘, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, at Jersey City Medical Center, at the age of 90.

Born on September 18, 1936, in Jiangyin, Jiangsu Province, China, to Lianda Liu 刘连大 and Ermei Zhou 周二妹. Hanxiang grew up surrounded by family — the fifth of six siblings, with three older sisters, an older brother, and a younger brother. At the age of 14, he went to Shanghai, where he spent eight years studying and working, before relocating to Hefei, Anhui province in 1958, following his work, and spent the next 30 years there before retiring. In 2002, he first came to the United States to care for his newborn grandson, staying for 18 months before returning home. In 2005, he made the permanent journey to the United States, settling in Jersey City, NJ.

Hanxiang is survived by his wife Ruli Shen 沈如梨, his son Anqi Liu 刘安琪, his daughter-in-law Jane Yeh, and his daughter Anjin Liu 刘安瑾. His greatest joy in his later years was his two grandsons, Augustin and Ariston, whom he delighted in caring for and spending time with. To watch him with them was to see him at his most content — patient, present, and full of love.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday July 10th, 2026, from 9am to 10:30am.  Interment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City.

A repast luncheon will be held after the funeral at the Cheesecake Factory in Newport Mall, 30 Mall Drive West, Jersey City.
