JoAnn Velez, beloved daughter of Juanita Gerena and Norberto Velez, passed away in her home in Jersey City, Monday, May 17, 2021. She was born and raised in Jersey City. JoAnn received her diploma from Ferris High School in 1983. In her youth, JoAnn was an avid pool player.
She worked at Commercial Trust Bank for several years in her late teens to early 20’s. She then worked as a bus driver for the NJ Transit. She was of the Catholic faith, had a compassionate personality and often helped those in need any way that she could. Her hugs were the best, and her greetings were always so joyful because she had a way of making you feel the utmost special. Entertaining people was something she enjoyed, especially during summer barbeques for family and friends. Good food and good company was her life motto.
JoAnn was a free-spirited person, full of spunk and humor and she gave her unconditional love without hesitation. She never judged, went with the flow and always stayed true to who she was. Despite life’s challenges, she always retained her kindhearted nature which was extended to her furry family members. She always kept a stash of treats for all of the dogs in the family; including Precious, Canela, Coco, Rico and Jersey. She leaves behind her most adored possession, her dog; Chewy. JoAnn dearly loved her nephews, nieces, great nephews and great niece; and always showed it through her warm greetings with them. JoAnn will be dearly missed by her entire family and friends. She is now reunited with Juanita, her mother and Charlie, her oldest brother.
