John Wolozen Obituary

Dr. John Joseph Wolozen, Jr, D.O., formerly of Jersey City and Bayonne, New Jersey, entered into
eternal rest on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Cooperman Barnabus Medical Center, Livingston,
NJ, after a lengthy illness. He was predeceased by his father John Joseph Wolozen, Sr., and his mother,
Blanche Clara (Malinowski) Wolozen.  He is survived by his beloved fiancée, Louise M. Sweeney and his
dear friends, Dr. Maria and Bill Pyontek.

John was a graduate of Saint Peters Prep (1970). He then attended Saint Peters College, Jersey City,
NJ, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Biology (1974) and was an Order of the Cross keys
recipient. He then received his Master of Science in Biology (1976) from Fairley-Dickinson University in
Madison, NJ.

John then worked as a Hospital Administrator in the Medical auditor division professional services at the
Saint Francis Community Health Center, Jersey City from 1975 to 1985. There, he was a member of the
patient care evaluation committee and fund-raising committee. He became the hospital standards
compliance coordinator in 1979, the hospital quality assessment Coordinator in 1982 and the hospital
grants coordinator in 1983. While working at St. Francis, John volunteered as an emergency medical technician (EMT) for the Jersey
City Heights Volunteer Ambulance Corps., from 1976 to 1977.
 
He was a telemarketing representative in the professional dental products division at the Block Drug
Company, Jersey City, 1985. He then was Quality assurance coordinator at Palisades General Hospital, North Bergen, New Jersey
from 1986 to 1987.

John’s interest in Health Care led him to attend medical school and he received a Doctor of Osteopathy
degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), School of Osteopathic
Medicine, class of 1993, in Stratford, NJ (now known as Rowan University-SOM). 
He Interned at the Kennedy Memorial Hospital, Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, Stratford/Camden,
New Jersey from 1993 to 1994. He then was a Resident in anatomic pathology, UMDNJ, Newark from 1994 to 1996, and a resident in
family practice, Union Hospital, NJ from 1996 to 1998.

Dr. Wolozen was an excellent family practice and emergency room physician, who loved treating his
patients. 
 
Prior to his medical training, John served in the US Navy. After receiving his medical degree, he later
served in the Naval Reserves.  He attained the rank of Lieutenant in the USN Medical Corps.
 
John loved music, especially the Beatles, reading, and was an avid New York Mets and Jets fan. He will
be sorely missed.
