Melody Mak, 40, of Jersey City, passed away on September 22, 2021 surrounded by family and close friends, with her husband, Matthew, holding her hand. Melody was born in Hong Kong and later immigrated to the United States at the age of 14. She spent the last decade of her life living in Jersey City, where she met and ultimately married Matthew in August 2017. She graduated from New York University in 2003 earning a bachelor’s degree from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business. Melody spent a successful career working for Deutsche Bank and, most recently, Capital One. She always took great pride in her work and developed lasting friendships with many of her colleagues.
Melody always had a optimistic outlook on life. She ran the NYC Marathon in 2013, loved to travel, cook and try new dining experiences. She was a sweet and caring person, radiating positivity to everyone she touched. Her passion for mentoring underprivileged children was always a source of pride for Melody and exemplified who she was as a person.
She is survived by her husband, Matthew Toscano; her parents Frankie Mak and Eva Wong; her sister Michelle Mak and her husband Chau Tat Luen; several aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws; and her beloved cats Mars and Mocha.
A memorial service for Melody will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 10 am to 12:00 pm at Michalski Funeral Home in Jersey City followed by a private service for immediate family.
