Saad Saber Bakeat

Saad Saber Bakeat (aka Michel) was born on July 20, 1946 in Cairo, Egypt, to his parents, Saber Bakeat Beshara and Mary Saad Guirguis.  He was the oldest of six children (Evon, Sami, Lucy, Raafat, and Emad).

He spent his early years in Alexandria, Egypt, where he completed his schooling and worked for the Egyptian Treasury Department.  He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on December 30, 1974.

He enjoyed sports, especially soccer.  His favorite team was the Egyptian El Zamalek team.  He also liked photography and was an amateur barber.  He loved swimming and eating fresh seafood, and he was fluent in several languages (Arabic, French, English, and eventually Spanish).

He married Heba Faltaus Saad in 1976 and they had three children together (Hani, Magdi, and Lina).  They left Egypt and moved to the United States in 1995.  They settled in Pittsburgh, PA.

Saad later moved to Jersey City, NJ.  It reminded him of Egypt, with its diversity and easy access, with everything being within walking distance.  He eventually remarried (Luz Aguirre-Valencia).

He spent his later years deepening his relationship with God and sharing his faith with others.  He could often be seen in the park with a cart of Bible Literature, ready to talk with anyone who would listen.  He enjoyed studying the Bible with people and watching them come to know and love his God, Jehovah.  He had a strong faith in the Bible's promise of a resurrection on a paradise earth.  He longed to be reunited with his sister and his parents, but he was especially looking forward to seeing his beloved mother again.  One of his favorite scriptures was Joshua 24:15, which says, "As for me and my household, we will serve Jehovah."

One of his greatest joys was being able to visit his children and spend time with his grandchildren, back in Pittsburgh.  They affectionately called him "Giddo" and enjoyed visiting amusement parks together, like Kennywood and Idlewild, as well as going to Erie Beach and bowling.

He fell asleep in death on June 23, 2026, at the Jersey City Medical Center.  He was 79.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lucy.  He is survived by his brothers: Sami Saber Bakeat (Teraza), Raafat Saber Bakeat (Nawal), Emad Saber Bakeat (Evon); his siter, Evon Saber Bakeat (Ezme); his wife Luz Aguirre-Valencia; his three children, Hani Saad (Jacklen), Magdi Saad (Rachel), and Lina Morales (Matthew); five grandchildren: Jasmine Thorne (Sebastian), JoAnna Saad, Joseph Saad, Nichlas Saad, and Evyonna Colagrande; three great-grandchildren: Leonardo, Leona and Leonel Thorne; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.  

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 4th, 2026, at 3pm, and Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 23 South Street, Jersey City, NJ, 07307.
