It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Sholto Ivan Roach, affectionately known as Tuffy, Short boy, SIR and SI, who departed this life on March 2, 2025, at the remarkable age of 103.
Sholto was born on April 24, 1921, in Kingston, Guyana. In his later years, he made New Jersey his home, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Carmelita Roach, and a loving father to Jennifer (deceased), Earl, Pops (deceased), Gaston, Paul (deceased), Steven (deceased), Andrew, David, Christopher, Peter, and Sholto Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Randolph and Christine Roach, and many of his siblings: Rita, Cherry, Mona, Keith, Irma, Randolph, and Oswald. He is survived by his sister Carol, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will cherish his memory forever.
Sholto lived a full and accomplished life, wearing many hats throughout his career. He served as a ship captain, customs officer, accountant, electrical supply manager, notary public, and supervisor for an oil and gas company. His intelligence and versatility were evident in his ability to write beautifully with both hands, a skill that complemented his love for calligraphy.
Beyond his professional achievements, Sholto found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He had a passion for watching Western movies, solving crossword puzzles, dancing, drinking, and enjoying good times with those he loved. His accomplishments were many, including earning his GED in America, becoming a notary public, holding an international driver’s license, and gaining residency in Barbados.
At 103 years old, Sholto left behind a lasting legacy of resilience, wisdom, and unforgettable memories that will live on in the hearts of his family and friends for generations.
